I am sooo looking foreword to spring and the start of the growing season! Since we took over the home several years ago all our time and effort went into rehab and decorating.

Last year we were finally able to get a garden together. I am trying to make the best use of the available space so I went with the raised garden beds. These use 2x12 boxes, without a bottom, laid on the ground and filled with soil. The boxes keep the soil in place and prevent intrusion by weeds and lawn grass and such. The boxes can be covered in winter to keep snow out of them and keep them from freezing solid.

In the spring (soon I hope!) the sun will warm them enough to allow planting several weeks before the rest of the ground is ready to plant. I'll build clear plastic covers over them to hold in the heat. This will give the opportunity to have the plants in the boxes fruiting several weeks before the others. The harvest will be spread out and we won't have all our vegetables ready at the same time like we did last summer. At least that’s the plan.

I'm new at this so if you have any advice to share please do so! I'm always looking for ideas.

  1. I can only offer you wishes of good luck since I still have only minimal experience and luck with veggies that come in a can, so, I will not be offering advice. I will be watching to see how your garden is growing, though.

Oh my... did Maureen force you to look at her Fish Book, too? tee hee

Thanks for posting my fish pics! No, Sandy, he has not seen the book yet. I know he WANTS to...who wouldn't? He'll see it soon, I'm sure. Going fishing in Canada this summer. More fish pics to follow. Going to a lake full of small mouth bass, so probably nothing as big as the catfish.

  3. Was finally here, love you lots ME
